Unfortunately, Google will take the GBM Channel completely offline as of July 30, 2024 (the “Deprecation Date”), and will no longer allow creation of new GBM chat messages as of July 15, 2024 (the “Cut Off Date”).
Exploring Alternatives and How LivePerson Can Support Your Transition: Starting on the Cut Off Date, new GBM messages will no longer be created. Starting on the Deprecation Date, all activity through the GBM channel will cease. We recognize that this may necessitate a change in your messaging strategy. What Actions You Can Take:
Consider informing your users that the messaging channel will be unavailable for new messages as of the Cut Off Date (July 15, 2024) and for any messaging as of the Deprecation Date (July 30, 2024) by adding or modifying the welcome message.
There are some actions and options you can consider based on the entry points you are leveraging:
If applicable, you can link your social media profiles to your Google Business Profile to inform users of alternative channels, because Google Business Profile will not be impacted by the GBM deprecation.
Remove the entry point or replace it with an alternative messaging option.
Key Dates:
Starting on the Cut Off Date (July 15, 2024). customers will no longer be able to start new GBM chat conversations with your business. Customers in existing GBM chat conversations will be notified that GBM chat will be phased out.
Starting on the Deprecation Date (July 31, 2024), GBM chat functionality will end. This means you'll no longer receive new GBM chat messages.
